What is UCI x Flatiron School Online Web Development Program?

UCI Division of Continuing Education is collaborating with Flatiron School to offer an Online Web Development Program – a cutting edge program that teaches students relevant coding skills to help change their careers. Flatiron School created one of the first immersive software engineering curriculums and continues to evolve as part of the WeWork family, training students with in-demand tech skills.

For the first time ever, you can experience Flatiron School’s Online Web Development Program while earning up to 17 UCI academic credits. Learn a variety of programming languages in courses that last 10 weeks, or dive into our full 10-month program. Joining the full program also means you’ll have access to a dedicated career coach who is committed to helping you land a job you’ll love.

Experience our 10-month coding course and learn the most popular programming languages utilized by leading technology companies around the world. The course includes coding languages such as:

HTML + CSS Development

Essentials Course # 1

2 credits | 10 weeks | $1750

Available for Fall 2019 semester, course start date October 7th.

This introductory class teaches the fundamentals of the common front end markup languages HTML and CSS. Learn to create static HTML5/CSS3 webpages as a prerequisite to style full-stack web programming projects.


 

Procedural Programming in Ruby

Essentials Course # 2

2 credits | 10 weeks | $1750

Available for Fall 2019 semester, course start date October 7th.

This beginner class introduces the fundamentals of computer programming, common vocabulary, and programming techniques using the coding language Ruby.

 

Object Oriented Programming in Ruby

Advanced Course # 3

2 credits | 10 weeks | $1750

Available for Fall 2019 semester, course start date October 7th.

Build a smart web application using the popular back-end coding language Ruby.

Web + Database Frameworks

Advanced Course # 4

Available for Winter 2020 semester, course start date January 2020.

Build web applications and bring them to life using connections to internet servers and databases.

Discover the world of front end programming libraries using the popular Javascript Library, React. React allows front end developers to build robust web applications faster, while creating impressive browser experiences.

Web Development Project

Advanced Course # 8

3 credits | 10 weeks | $2000

Available for Winter 2020 semester, course start date January 2020.

You’ll get the chance to build a serious web application project. Create a new business idea from scratch while getting a better sense of how to work as a professional software engineer.

Can I succeed without a coding background?

Absolutely – Flatiron School curriculum is created for people with no background in computer science or coding. Career advancement is our cornerstone, which is why students with a variety of backgrounds are successful in our program and find great jobs in tech.

What’s the schedule like for online learning?

All the classes are online. The Essentials and Advanced courses are all self-paced, with approximately 10 hours of classwork per week and completed over a 10-week period. The full Online Web Development Accelerated Program is 10 months long and about 20 - 25 hours of classwork per week. Classwork can be completed around your personal schedule, whenever is most convenient.

Can I take more than one course simultaneously?

How often are the courses available?

The courses are offered on a seasonal quarterly basis in accordance with the UCI Department of Continuing Education academic calendar found here. Registration opens for the Fall 2019 semester on August 22nd, 2019. Classes begin on October 7th, 2019. Registration for the Winter 2020 semester opens on October 25th. Classes begin in early January 2020.

Are there any financial aid options available?

Unfortunately not at this time! That said, students who take UCI Department of Continuing Education classes may be eligible to receive an up to $5,000 Education Tax Deduction at the end of the year (please consult your tax advisor for the applicability of this credit to your particular circumstances).
